As the first recipient of the TSFRE/NIH jointly sponsored K08, the impact on my career was tremendous.  It raised awareness about the work we were doing in my lab at the national level. It provided a measure of support that ultimately led to R01 funding. Most importantly, it helped define and legitimize my research career in very clear fashion.
