TSFRE Research Grants |

Operational support of original research efforts by cardiothoracic surgeons who have completed their formal training, and who are seeking initial support and recognition for their research program. Awards of up to $40,000 a year for up to 2 years are made each year to support the work of an early-career cardiothoracic surgeon (within 5 years of first faculty appointment).

TSFRE Research Fellowships |

Support of up to $30,000 a year for up to 2 years for surgical residents who have not yet completed cardiothoracic surgical training.

| Nina Starr Braunwald Career Development Award |
|
Provides a biennial award of $115,000 for two years to support the research career development of a woman cardiac surgeon who holds a full-time faculty appointment and who is within 10 years of completion of thoracic surgery residency.

TSFRE/NHLBI Jointly Sponsored Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Awards (TSFRE/NHLBI MCSDA) |
|
Support to outstanding clinician research scientists who are committed to a career in cardiothoracic surgery research and have the potential to develop into independent investigators. The award is up to $150,000 a year for the 5-year award period plus $25,000 indirect support from the NHLBI and supports a three, four or five year period of didactic training and supervised research experience. Deadline: February 12, June 12, and October 12.

TSFRE/NCI Jointly Sponsored Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Awards (TSFRE/NCI MCSDA) |
|
Provides support to outstanding clinically trained professionals who are committed to a career in laboratory or field-based research and have the potential to develop into independent investigators. The award is up to $150,000 a year the 5-year award period plus $30,000 indirect support from the NCI and supports a five year period of supervised research that integrates didactic studies with laboratory or clinically-based research. Deadline: February 12, June 12, and October 12.

Simulation in Thoracic Surgery |

The TSFRE Education Committee request proposals for grants to support the demonstration study for the application of simulation in thoracic surgery education. The TSFRE Board of Directors has approved up to $100,000 in total funding for all Simulation Grants. Award amounts vary and are not specified but will depend on the quality of applications received with realistic budgetary justification.

Leadership Program in Health Policy and Management |

The Thoracic Surgery Foundation for Research and Education (TSFRE) is pleased to announce the availability of scholarships to attend the Leadership Program in Health Policy and Management at the Heller School of Public Policy and Management at Brandeis University.
TSFRE is prepared to provide up to 10 partial scholarships of $2,500 toward the $5,200 cost of the course. Attendees will be responsible for their own travel and hotel expenses.
